Community

We have a strong commitment to the development of the Northern Territory and its people.

Through our programs and operations, we increase research and development in the Northern Territory, promote local services and supplies, strengthen skilled labour and support greater indigenous business participation in the Northern Territory economy.

Local training opportunities

We invest significantly in external Registered Training Organisations delivering accredited training programs. Our employees have access to courses such as mental health first aid, pharmacist immunisation, certificates II - IV in Community Pharmacy and the safe handling of medications.

We invest in internal and on the job training, including: internal training and mentoring programs delivered by senior pharmacists and induction training for new employees.

Building local pharmacy capability

We continually train and upskill our staff.

We apply for, and champion, Workforce Innovation Grants to further develop pharmacist services in remote communities. We also run a program based on the engagement of Indigenous pharmacy assistants, with options to transition to studying pharmacy and graduate as pharmacists.

Supporting local businesses

Northpharm engages and collaborates with other Northern Territory-based enterprises, including Indigenous Corporations and businesses. Our approach includes a Northern Territory Industry Participation Plan and a Buy Local Policy.

Our pharmacies stock a wide range of local retail products – we have a strategic focus on supporting Indigenous and local business.

Territory Pharmacies retail chemist stores stock:

  • Purple House Bush Balms: healing balms from native plants from the Central Australian region. Purple House is a social enterprise supporting The Western Desert Dialysis Wellbeing Program

  • Croc Candy: started by 10-year-old Angus Copelin-Walters, Croc Candy makes confectionary including their popular Croc Eye Lollipops. Proceeds support a range of charities including dyslexia support.

  • Slappa’s Thongs: long-lasting, hard-wearing thongs with arch support. Slappa’s is a family owned and run Territory Enterprise started in 2010 at Mindil Beach Market.

  • Bumble Bean Chocolate: handmade chocolates from Darwin’s first chocolate factory, Bumble Bean was established in 2011 and is family run.

Territory business networks memberships

Northpharm is a ‘Business Essential’ member of the Northern Territory Chamber of Commerce. We joined to promote local business and support strong local relationships.

As part of Territory Proud, Northpharm supports other Territory Enterprises and NT businesses wherever possible. We prioritise using local goods and services before looking elsewhere.

Sponsorship

Northpharm has sponsored many local community organisations through the donation of products, services and in-kind support. We look for sponsorship opportunities that are aligned with our values and our focus on improving community health.
